Israel Plans to Split Northern Gaza and Limit Return of Displaced Palestinians
Israel’s military has reportedly intensified its operations in the Gaza Strip since October 6, with a new plan to divide the northern region of Gaza into two parts and restrict the return of displaced residents to areas such as Cibaliya and Beit Lahiya.
According to a report by Israel’s state television, KAN, an unnamed senior military official shared the plans with Israeli journalists, explaining that a new corridor is being created in northern Gaza, effectively splitting the region into two. The official stated that residents forcibly displaced from the area will not be allowed to return to these regions at this time.
Aims to Cut Off Gaza City from Northern Areas
The new corridor will isolate Gaza City from the northern areas of Beit Lahiya and Cibaliya, effectively cutting off these two regions from the rest of the Gaza Strip. Israel has already imposed a blockade on humanitarian aid reaching the affected areas. As reported by Anadolu Agency (AA), the new plan includes measures to prevent any aid deliveries to these regions, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation.
The Israeli military has also confirmed that Palestinians forcibly displaced by the ongoing conflict will not be allowed to return to the northern regions of Gaza for the time being, leaving thousands of people in limbo.
Ground Operations in Cibaliya and Beit Lahiya
Since October 6, the Israeli military has launched intense ground assaults on the northern Gaza regions of Cibaliya and Beit Lahiya, resulting in widespread destruction and loss of life. Israel has also prevented aid from entering the region, forcing Palestinians to flee their homes.
As of now, more than 1,800 Palestinians have been killed, and thousands have been displaced due to the ongoing Israeli military operations. Israel’s approach to the situation in northern Gaza is being interpreted by some analysts as the implementation of a controversial plan referred to as the “Generals’ Plan.”
The “Generals’ Plan” and Its Implications
The “Generals’ Plan” aims to forcefully evacuate Palestinians from the northern part of the Gaza Strip, and subsequently block all essential supplies—such as food, fuel, and clean water—into the region. The plan seeks to further tighten Israel’s control over Gaza by isolating key areas, cutting off the flow of aid, and ensuring that displaced populations do not return to their homes.
The humanitarian impact of these operations is devastating, with increasing numbers of people left without shelter, basic necessities, or any means of support as Israel’s offensive continues.
Ongoing Crisis in Gaza and International Concern
The situation in Gaza remains critical, with international organizations and human rights groups raising alarms about the humanitarian disaster unfolding. The combination of military strikes, forced displacement, and blockades has created a dire situation for the Palestinian civilians in Gaza, and the international community continues to call for immediate action to address the crisis.
