Following Fenerbahçe’s 1-0 win over Adana Demirspor, our head coach Jose Mourinho shared his thoughts on the match and expressed his pride in being involved in the club’s latest campaign.
Match Analysis by Mourinho
Reflecting on the game, the Portuguese coach said, “The only thing missing today was more goals. Considering how we played in the first 60-65 minutes, the result should have been much different. We missed a lot of chances, even those I would call ‘half chances.’ This means we were not technically accurate in the final third, but we were the dominant side throughout the match. We deserved a much bigger win. Towards the end, the team started to drop physically because players like Maximin and İrfan couldn’t sustain the full 90 minutes. We’ve also been relying heavily on İsmail and Szymanski in midfield. That’s why we saw a physical drop-off in the final stages. It wasn’t ideal, but we managed to secure a very well-deserved victory, and looking at the game, we certainly deserved more.”
On Player Positions and Rotations
Regarding the positional changes during the game, Mourinho explained, “When you have two players for a position, it’s easier to make these adjustments. For example, replacing Dzeko with Nesyri is straightforward. But in other situations, you have to adapt the players’ positions. Szymanski, for instance, played in midfield, though he’s typically more of an offensive player. Then Bartu came in, which I think is great for Turkish football because he’s a promising young player. We’re not afraid to give them minutes, and he’ll get more time on the pitch. We also have Yusuf and Oğuz, who are getting consistent minutes. I believe this is good for Turkish football. Yes, I work for Fenerbahçe, but indirectly, I’m also contributing to Turkish football.”
Mourinho on Fenerbahçe’s Educational Campaign
During the press conference, Mourinho also spoke about Fenerbahçe’s new educational campaign, saying, “This is a Fenerbahçe campaign, and I’m proud to be part of it. As I mentioned, it’s a campaign driven by our president and club. As the head coach of the first team, I see it as my responsibility to be involved. It’s a pleasure to be part of such an initiative. I always want to do my best in these kinds of campaigns. Our club has started an amazing campaign, and I’m proud of it. For the next two years, this country will be my home, and I want to do something meaningful for the children here.”
