Trump to Launch New Cryptocurrency Business Amid Presidential Campaign
Former President Donald J. Trump announced on Thursday his plans to unveil a new cryptocurrency venture as his presidential campaign actively seeks support from the lucrative crypto industry ahead of the upcoming November election. In a video shared on X, Trump revealed that he would introduce the crypto platform, World Liberty Financial, during a livestream event scheduled for 8 p.m. on Monday.
Trump declared, “We’re embracing the future with crypto and leaving the slow and outdated big banks behind.” While the announcement generated excitement, it remained vague regarding the specifics of his involvement in the project.
In recent weeks, two of Trump’s sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., have been actively promoting World Liberty Financial. They have shared links to a dedicated channel on the messaging app Telegram that provides updates related to the venture. A post on the World Liberty Financial Telegram channel on Thursday confirmed that Trump would be participating in the livestream from Mar-a-Lago, his luxurious country club in Palm Beach, Florida. The post stated, “Get ready as we unveil our plan to Make Finance Great Again.”
It is quite uncommon for presidential candidates to initiate new business ventures during the height of a campaign, and Trump’s business endeavors have previously raised questions regarding potential conflicts of interest throughout his political journey. In addition to World Liberty Financial, he holds a significant stake in the Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of the conservative social media platform Truth Social. Recently, the company’s stock has faced a substantial decline, significantly diminishing the value of his investments by billions of dollars.
World Liberty Financial marks Trump’s latest initiative to align himself with the crypto community. Throughout the campaign trail, he has pledged to roll back the U.S. government’s crackdown on the industry, which has been pushing for stricter regulations on digital currencies. In July, Trump addressed the annual Bitcoin conference in Nashville—one of the largest gatherings in the crypto space—where he promised to transform the United States into “the crypto capital of the planet.”
